Case study: Preliminary Environmental Impact Assessment on the Wolgan Valley Wilderness Rail Trail

COC Ltd was required to conduct a Preliminary Environmental Impact Assessment on the Wolgan Valley Wilderness Rail Trail project by the Forestry Corporation of NSW (formerly Forests NSW).

COC Ltd turned to First Field Environmental to produce the Preliminary Environmental Impact Assessment and provide strategic advice.

First Field Environmental analysed the proposed project and delivered a risk assessment that focused on the identification of potential threats to the environment, safety and heritage value on Forestry Corporation NSW and Department of Lands landholdings through which a portion of the Trail extends. The report identified a number of significant environmental values and First Field Environmental liaised between Forestry Corporation NSW and Department of Lands landholdings and the client to determine management strategies acceptable to both parties.

With the assistance of First Field Environmental, the Wolgan Valley Wilderness Rail Trail was granted a licence to operate across 26km of the State Forest and continues to enjoy a cooperative relationship with Forestry Corporation NSW.
