We design, implement and audit environmental monitoring across Australia.
From small developments to major infrastructure projects, our specialists assist with assessing and managing the risk to the environment and help you to satisfy your approval requirements and corporate environmental policies.
The potential risks to the environment occur and change over a project lifecycle. Our first-hand experience in the field gives us an understanding of when and where the environmental risks can arise and lets us tailor the proposed management and monitoring activities specifically to your project.
With extensive practical know-how, we prepare and review management plans and provide support in addressing Conditions of Approval, ongoing land management scheduling, and annual monitoring and reporting requirements.
case study: skimmer pump pond rehabilitation
First Field Environmental’s expertise in assessing and recommending rehabilitation options and developing remediation plans was demonstrated during a project with Delta Electricity.
The decommissioning of Delta Electricity’s Munmorah Power Station meant that the on-site skimmer pumps would be turned off to prevent the need for future monitoring and maintenance. The Skimmer Pump Ponds would then no longer be required and Delta Electricity proposed to rehabilitate the ponds and return the site to a sustainable natural regime of native vegetation and drainage.
First Field Environmental put-together a comprehensive report that considered the alternatives to rehabilitating the ponds, presented the various rehabilitation options, described the best solution, and assessed its potential impact.
As part of this report, First Field Environmental recommended that the ponds be drained, the fish relocated to an adjacent waterway, and that landscaping and planting be undertaken for the site to resemble the local landscape.
The Skimmer Pump Ponds have since been rehabilitated taking into account the recommendations presented by First Field Environment. The site now resembles the adjacent natural environment both topographically and floristically and no longer requires regular maintenance by Delta Electricity.
case study: rehabilitation monitoring for EnergyAustralia
EnergyAustralia is responsible for rehabilitating the Enhance Place Coal Mine located in the Western Coalfields of NSW. Looking to better understand how their rehabilitation activities are progressing against the agreed requirements, they asked First Field Environment to produce a rehabilitation monitoring report for the site.
First Field Environmental undertook a field survey that assessed the rehabilitation activities by focusing on erosion and sedimentation, vegetation, pest and animals, stocking rates, and access and fencing. We then brought this information together to deliver a high-quality report that identified the rehabilitation successes and failures compared to the agreed performance indicators and completion criteria set out in Enhance Place Coal Mine’s Care and Maintenance Mining Operations Plan. First Field Environment also made practical recommendations for areas that could be improved.
